WaveGen Energy is set to launch its landmark pilot project at Maravanthe, one of India’s most dynamic coastal environments. This deployment will demonstrate our patented Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technology, designed to harness the immense and consistent power of ocean waves. With an industry-leading efficiency of over 50%, our system converts wave motion into clean electricity while also functioning as a natural wave-breaker, providing coastal protection along with renewable power generation.
The Maravanthe pilot marks a significant step toward building India’s blue-energy future. This project will generate real-world performance data, validate large-scale deployment potential, and showcase how wave energy can complement solar and wind to strengthen India’s renewable energy mix. Beyond clean power, the installation opens possibilities for desalination, coastal resilience, and sustainable community development, making Maravanthe a model site for next-generation ocean energy solutions.

The plant is capable of producing around 525.6 MWh of annual energy at a 60% capacity utilisation factor (CUF).

Community Benefits and Environmental Impact
The project will create new livelihood opportunities for the local community through technical roles, maintenance activities, and support services associated with the pilot installation. Its distinctive ocean-energy infrastructure also has the potential to attract tourists interested in renewable innovation, giving a boost to the local economy. By generating clean electricity from waves, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions significantly—offsetting approximately 420–450 tonnes of CO₂ annually, contributing to India’s broader climate and sustainability goals.

Complementing Renewables for Reliable RTC Power
Wave energy offers a powerful complement to India’s existing renewable mix by addressing the variability of solar and wind. Unlike solar, which peaks during the day, or wind, which fluctuates seasonally, wave patterns remain consistent and predictable, providing a steady source of baseload-style power. When integrated with offshore wind turbines, wave energy converters can share marine infrastructure, grid connections, and maintenance resources, creating a synergistic hybrid system. This combined setup enables near round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy delivery, strengthening grid stability and accelerating India’s transition to a resilient, low-carbon energy future.
